Former MP Patricia Hewitt Spam e-mail…

I was just going through my spam folder and found the following e-mail allegedly from former MP Patricia Hewitt:

Dear Friend,

This might startle you a little as you might have seen or read about me but really don’t know me in person. Well, I am Rt. Hon Patricia Hewitt MP.

A British politician and Labor Party Member of Parliament for Banking. I was the first Minister for Children appointed in a newly created post with the Department for Education and Skills and presently Minister of State in the Department for culture, Media and Sport under Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom.

I got your contact info via your country’s national directory and intend introducing a project concerning charity in your country and maybe neighboring countries around you.

A few months ago, I was compelled to make an over estimation during a budget and set aside the sum of Six Million Three Hundred Thousand Great Britain Pounds (6, 300,000.00GBP) with the sole intention of channeling it all into charity which I am delegating you to executed on my behalf with complete supervision of my Attorney as he will also be the one in charge of securing these funds into your custody.

This transaction will result to you being paid a commission of 11% of the investment capital and the balance, distributed to charity organizations of your choice or reinvested and the net income, used for rehabilitating charity organization in and around your country through you/your agency annually for the period of five years or a little more. The last time I orchestrated this sort of Grant, the individual in Australia succeeded in successfully setting up three standard orphanage homes in less than a year.

I have never been so proud of such a noble individual. I hope we would have a reoccurrence in your case. If you are willing to execute this Humanitarian Project, You must understand that I desire absolute confidentiality and professionalism on this issue. For security reasons as regards my reputation, I will not be able to communicate regularly with you; but my Attorney will take up the processing on my behalf and get these funds processed and released to you without any delay.

I don’t plan on benefiting anything from this project, but will be absolutely fulfilled, if and only if you remain sincere to me on the handling of this project with utmost sincerity and confidentiality; and eventually utilize the funds for the purpose which I have explained to you above. Kindly respond urgently if you are interested as the fund have beentied down for too long, so I can equip you with the necessary details, along side my Attorney’s contact information, so as to commence the transaction properly; on the other hand, if you are not, please let your intentions be known or better still, Kindly relent from replying this email.

You could get personal info. on me via my official website, but do not try contacting me via any personal information you may lay your hands upon on the internet as almost all my contact info are connected to the British House of Parliament data base except the ones I personally sent to you; as I don’t want our effort and my reputation, jeopardized.

Would anyone ever believe this?

I must say though it shows a bit of smarts from spammers. Better than a Nigerian Army General one…

Tory MP David Amess doesn’t like women smiling

Yes that’s right folks. The man who represented me when I lived in Southend West has been on the attack this week. With so many huge issues flying around about Libya, NHS reforms, Jobs etc… what is at the forefront of David Amess’ mind? You guessed it. It is the fact that female newsreaders on the BBC smile too much.

Now this wasn’t just an off the cuff remark to a journalist this was in a debate in the House of Commons. The MP for my now neighbouring constituency stood up in the House and said about the female news on-air talent:

“I don’t know whether we have brilliant presenters.

“I would just say that it annoys me when one or two female presenters, I don’t know whether they’ve had too much botox or something, when they are presenting the news and it’s a very serious subject, they are smiling, which I find slightly annoying.”

Are you freaking kidding me? On the face of it without a doubt it is just a flat out dumb thing to say. Sophie Raworth and Fiona Bruce are both clearly first-rate newsreaders so if he’s talking about them then he’s clearly a little bit loopy. I’m not a huge Kate Silverton guy but she’s certainly fine at what she does. I just think it’s an insane thiong to come out and say in parliament. Obviously he has an axe to grind with the BBC but do you want to know the worse thing?

Anyone who lives in this area will know that David Amess smiles all the bleedin’ time whenever a camera is near him whatever the situation. He is like how Gordon Brown was trying to be when he took over as PM. The moment a camera was on him the cheesy fake smile would come out only Amess can pull it off and makes it look quite natural. So basically he is slagging off the BBC’s female on-air news talent for doing something that he himself does. If anyone is ever in the area then pick up a local rag and the chances of you seeing his cheery mug in there are pretty high.

I haven’t met Amess but I have heard to give him his due that he is a pretty decent local MP. Obviously I wanted my boy Peter Welch to win and despite increasing the Lib Dem vote by 5.4% it wasn’t to be. Amess is a long-standing politician in the area and it seems as though he has a job for life. Yet another reason why our FPTP system is antiquated although the best example of that is Nadine Dorries as I have a horrific fear she’ll still be in the Commons by the time Portsmouth rise once more into the top flight of English football – and that isn’t happening any time soon.

So shame on Amess for saying this. All it does is take away from his points on the BBC and those sad little comments are all anyone will pick up on. As for Peter Welch who got beat by Amess last time around. I think we’ll see him rise again and represent the Lib Dems somewhere significant….

Nick Halling leaves Sky Sports NFL coverage

For news of Sky Sports retaining NFL rights for the 2012-2014 seasons please click this link.

NFL fans in the UK know there are a few things that are assured as the Sun rising each morning and that Ed Hochuli works out. They are that Kevin Cadle will butcher any presenting gig. Mike Carlson will always be amazing and that Nick Halling will butcher a Thanksgiving Turkey and openly root for his team the Pittsburgh Steelers on live NFL coverage on Sky Sports.

Well last night the NFL season opened up with what turned out to be a great game (certainly if you have Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees as your fantasy QBs) but there was somebody missing. Kevin Cadle was there and along side him was Neil Reynolds and big Cecil Martin. Big strange I thought but Nick Halling has been known to miss the odd Thursday game game so I wasn’t too concerned. I then did some googling and found out that Halling will not be on the NFL coverage this year.

Some will rejoice and some will lament. The majority won’t even care less. This blogger though does and it is a sad day. I’m not a huge Nick Halling guy on other sports. I didn’t like him when he fronted Ice Hockey on Five and wasn’t a huge fan of him voicing over football for The Football League Show. However on the NFL it just worked and the banter with him and Kevin Cadle really helped the show run seamlessly.

He wasn’t forced out the door but instead chose to go by his own volition as he’s gone from freelancer to staffer seemingly as he’s now on the Sky boxing team. After so long on the NFL it would seem surprising that he couldn’t do both roles in a freelance way so logically the move to boxing is a full-time one.

Sky’s boxing output took a dramatic hit last year when Ian Darke left Sky to become the voice of football across the pond for ESPN and with Adam Smith not being heard on commentary too often recently it seems to have opened up a spot. Sky have increased their boxing output (but decreased their PPV output) and brought in John Rawling in a freelance capacity as well. I like John Rawling on boxing but Nick Halling I don’t. I really don’t.

So we get a decrease in quality output in the NFL where Halling shone and a decrease in boxing where Darke shone through like a beacon and Smith seems to have been moved towards presenting and fronting the sport.

Sky have made some poor decisions recently and they can be tracked back to Ian Darke’s decision to leave. Getting rid of Mark Bolton and replacing him with Scott Minto was disappointing and this move is just as bad. At least they went with Ed Chamberlain as their primary football guy over David Jones so that is one thing but put me in the disappointed camp that Nick Halling has moved on from the NFL.

He may have been a Scummer but he was good value.
