On the Unite for Europe March – The Sun Comments Edition…

without comments

Ah comments. Where people go to blow off steam. Here are a few of the comments from The Sun’s article on the march today…

Just shows you they are all for their selfs, we are not quitting just getting out to better ourselves.

This really doesn’t make too much sense now does it? Why are they marching for their selfs? (surely it should’ve been themselves?) and we are quitting, these people are Quitlings and quitters.

Funny they march against brexit and trump but not islamic terrorism…

To be fair someone did reply to this comment saying you march against something democratic, which makes perfect sense. I don’t think many people need to hold a rally against terrorism of any sort as I think we are all united against such acts…

Deluded.

Why?

The great unwashed have no respect.

So people who marched today are unwashed? How does the commenter know such facts? Were they privy to every person’s bathroom behaviour this morning before they left for the march or are they talking out of their own backside? You decide…

they should be all deported, we are at war with the kebab wallahs and these bell end are doing this

Ah here we go. This country should only be for people who agree with the ideals of this particular commenter. So people who were born in the UK should be deported for having a different point of view on a subject. I think all people who don’t use capital letters at the start of sentences should be deported. It makes just as much sense…

these people should be relocated in belguim

If we can find belguim then I’m willing to relocate there. Maybe we should add people who can’t spell the name of a country to the list of people who should be deported…

It’s such a nice day. Haven’t these insects got anything important in their own lives worth doing instead because all these marches are doing is wasting their time. Ain’t gonna make a difference I’m afraid, losers.

Whilst I agree it is highly unlikely to make any difference, when you call fellow human beings insects, you’ve already lost the argument.

K N O B S

I know you are but what am I?

Clueless, disresepctful scum who are too stupid to see that it’s the rotten EU who have made life so much easier for the murderers who want to come here and kill us.

Ah so people who marched today are Scum. See my previous comment about calling someone an insect and already losing the argument. Also why is peaceful marching disrespect, wait I mean, disresepctful? I won’t even comment about the murderer bullshit…

true brits don’t quit! idiots cannot see the irony of what they are protesting. the eu wants no borders and want to populate the entire europe with 3rd world people who many have no respect for the country they infest. and they want us to pay for it. they can all cluck off! remoaners do not understand that poorer citizens of poorer countries will keep on flooding into wealthier countries where the infrastructure and society goes to pot! can any of these idiots argue that what is happening to housing, nhs, benefits, education and so many other services have been under siege to such an extent that it cannot cope?

True Brits don’t quit but apparently those who are marching to stay in the EU should quit. That makes sense. As for the EU wanting to populate the entire continent with third world people. I’m not sure that is strictly accurate…

In a democratic world they are free to have their march to prove what sore losers they are. Brexit has started if they like it or not, the queen has signed it off as it’s okay with her. Off with their heads.

They are free to march but they should have their heads cut off. Well ok then…

Been told by a friend whose been near this March that most of the accents he’s been hearing are either European or Scottish . Only what I’ve been told.

This person has no friends.

It’s a shame as these are the type of people who should have been hurt not the innoccnt ones.

Protesters should be hurt by terrorism and not innocent, I mean innoccnt ones. Interesting PoV that…

The under 50,s haven’t known this country before EU. What they forget is we ruled ourselves and many other countries for centuries and can do it again. The Queen has signed and that’s good enough. I don’t want my country to be taken over by the ignorant uneducated people who, refuse to integrate and expect us to conform to their. Archaic ways. They are turning towns into slums. If they don’t like it they know where the airports are or take a boat I don’t care ….sod off.

He doesn’t want the country to be taken over by ignorant uneducated people but does think we can rule many other countries again…

When their child is being rushed to hospital in an ambulance, I hope every single one of them will forgive me for staging protests blocking the roads and costing so much money there will be none left to treat their children as that is the world they seem to think they have a right to f*** up.

She seems nice…

Look I’m no big fan of protests and I can’t see it achieving a damned thing but we live in a democracy. If people want to peacefully protest anything then they have that right. Yet some people think that anyone who disagrees with them should be deported, or have their child unable to get to a hospital or have their heads chopped off. These people call themselves British and are proud of that. I’m just ashamed of them.

On the return of boobs to Page 3 and the next step…

without comments

Who is shocked or even in the least bit surprised that Page 3 of today’s edition of The Sun has a woman with her boobs out on it? Anyone…? If you have your arm raised then I’m looking at you very quizzically.

You see the newspaper never said that it had dropped the topless photo from its daily editions. They actually went out of their way to say very little on the issue. If they were dropping it then you know what, they would’ve said it very openly and very loudly for the positive publicity that they would get from the media and from those who do not buy the newspaper.

Wait a minute…what were those last few words again?

those who do not buy the newspaper

And that my friends (and those who are indifferent and heck enemies if any of them read) is the issue. I wrote this a couple of years back and it still stands true today as much as it did then:

Page 3 to The Sun is nothing to do with their thoughts of sexual objectification. It is all about money (like most businesses) and financially it obviously is worth it to them otherwise they wouldn’t do it. The people who don’t like it don’t buy it anyway so why would they care what these people think? Isn’t that a very bizarre way to run a business? Would you run a business where the people who make you money like what you do but those who don’t make you money are complaining and you listen to the latter and not the former?

So this is what in most likelihood happened over the past few weeks. The Sun decided that they were going to experiment with dropping the tits and seeing how it effected circulation. No-one said anything after Friday’s edition had no boobs but when none appeared on Monday, the news ran with it and ran with it hard. This meant that Tuesday was the first day the newspaper had no tits on show where most people knew about it and what happened? By Thursday the boobs were back.

Either they were trolling the world or they lost a whole load of sales because maybe, just maybe, some people buy the newspaper not for the news but for a picture of a naked woman’s top half. Another newspaper still has topless photos of women on its page 3 and I bet the Daily Star’s sales went up dramatically on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Sun is not a bastion of morality. It is about making money. If they get more sales by having a picture of a woman baring her chest then they’ll continue to do it. That is just business logic. Those who don’t like Page 3 in its current guise don’t buy the newspaper anyway and they won’t return to the paper just because the picture stopped appearing, whereas they would lose sales from those who like it and don’t have it any more, those people will find an alternative tabloid and look what else is out there, is that the Daily Star I see…?

Quoting myself again:

Sometimes we see the world from our own point of view and not from the point of view of others. Page 3 sells newspapers. I don’t like it. You probably don’t like it but it is a fact and until it doesn’t then why would they stop? The Sun as we all know isn’t the bastion of moral fortitude and it doesn’t pretend to be. It is a newspaper that serves as the news of the lowest common denominator. I don’t think that is an unfair statement and the people that buy it are not those who care about tits on Page 3.

I know people will say I back Page 3 because I’ll say I’m not shocked that they continue to publish it. It is either that or I can be the business logic behind it. I don’t understand why people would ever think that a newspaper would change its content to suit those who didn’t buy the newspaper in the first place. If The Sun drops Page 3 then it loses money and also it loses influence and that shouldn’t be overlooked. Having the biggest circulation gives (or at least gives the perception) of more influence over more people. One thing we know about Rupert Murdoch, he likes having influence!

Page 3 will continue to exist as long as more people buy The Sun (and the Daily Star) than would if those newspapers didn’t have a topless woman photo. It is just business plain and simple. Sexual objectification of women and changing attitudes towards that won’t be achieved by cutting off the access to boobs in a newspaper. This is a deeper problem in society and this one symbolic gesture was never going to work as long as they went after one newspaper only and the left the other newspaper who did exactly the same alone.

I’ve said it repeatedly over the years and people say I don’t know what I’m talking about, that is because they are only seeing things from their own PoV and not from a business point of view. Nearly 2.75million people buy either The Sun or the Daily Star daily at a near 5:1 ratio. If just 10% of The Sun’s readership switches to the Daily Star that is a dramatic change and puts The Sun in the clutches of the Daily Mail for biggest daily newspaper and in turn moves the Daily Star above both the Daily Express and the Daily Telegraph.

The Sun wants to have the largest circulation in the UK. Tits help them do that. I just wish people would take a step back and understand that this has nothing to do with how The Sun perceive women. This is all about how much money they make, how big a circulation they have and how much influence the newspaper (and its owner) has over the British electorate. It is no less and no more. It is that simple. Whether we like it or not that is why the boobs are back. I’m not a fan. I don’t buy the newspaper. I won’t buy the newspaper with tits or with no tits but I’m not their clientèle and that is the issue. Those that buy The Sun knows it has tits and either doesn’t care or actively like them.

Having written about this several times and along the same lines, I know that people think I’m a moron because I can compartmentalise both my personal opinion and the business decision behind the tits. To get boobs out of newspapers it needs a ban and not out of the goodness of the hearts of the editors of the two dailies who put boobs there. Turkey’s wouldn’t vote for Christmas so why would newspaper editors vote for something that would lose them money? They wouldn’t. The Sun has now seen that they sell more newspapers with boobs than they do without so the boobs will stay until their is legislation that says they can’t. The fight to get tits out of the newspaper has to go to through government, it always has been, now maybe those who are leading the fight will understand this.

Nick Clegg & Ed Miliband photographed with a copy of The Sun – cue over the top reactions across the board

without comments

Holy crap. Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband have been photographed with a copy of the countries most popular newspaper. Burn them both at the stake now. I mean seriously. Anyone who does that is surely not capable of representing the country. Sometimes politicos live in this ridiculous political bubble where we think we are right and that those who disagree with us are just plain wrong. That is part of politics that I truly despise.

Ed Miliband was snapped with a copy of the paper and got an attack from the leader of the Labour group on Liverpool Council. No surprise and probably fair game. Ed is not a stupid man and he knew that photograph would go down like a lead balloon and would piss off Labour voters in Liverpool. Here is the thing though, they still aren’t voting for anyone else so he can piss them off with no real consequences. Apparently he is ‘very very sorry’‘ for both endorsing the newspaper and being photographed with it. Why should he be? He is the leader of a national party, not just a localised party in an area that rightly despises the newspaper. More people who buy The Sun vote than any other newspaper. It is a big potential electorate for him and for the other party leaders.

The Green Party tweeted out a photo of Miliband, Cameron and Clegg endorsing the newspaper and saying that there was another way and that people should join the party based on the fact they hadn’t been photographed with a copy of The Sun nor seemingly endorsed it. Are they for fucking real? Seriously Green Party? What type of person bases their vote let alone membership of a political party based solely on their newspaper of choice? I’ll give you the answer to that question because I’m a kind fellow – a numpty – an absolute numpty. Surely people who join political parties have a wider scope of reasoning to do so that the newspapers that political leaders are photographed with? I didn’t see Nigel Farage endorsing The Sun yesterday – does that mean everyone should join them too? Idiots.

Ok I got sidetracked a bit there. Now to attack my own lot *cracks knuckles* – yet again we had the whole Page 3 issue come up on Lib Dem Voice with regards to this. I’m not surprised. When I saw it pop up on my twitter timeline I also knew exactly who the author was and what they were writing about. I also knew exactly how the comment string would go. If there is something that will unite liberals it will be an air of superiority as depressing as that sounds – we all know it is true.

So on to the article itself. Nick shouldn’t have endorsed The Sun’s England Football Team Special Edition because of boobs. Yes those two things that protrude from a woman’s chest to generate milk for babies is at the crux of this. Boobs should not be seen on page three of a national newspaper. Everyone knows my views on this, if you don’t like it then don’t buy it. The women are free to pose for the newspaper if they so desire. It is a free country. This is the type of issue where liberalism and equality come to blows in the eyes of some people. Still it isn’t really the issue today and I have written about it so many times and been told that because a) I don’t have milk producing organs on my chest and b) I’m not a parent means that I have two strikes against my name and have no standing to have an opinion on it. I do love liberals.

Gareth Epps in the comments said, ‘It is more than ‘not just a good idea’, it is insensitive, politically damaging and stupid beyond belief. Absolutely a ‘heads must roll’ moment.. Politically damaging? So showing support for the countries football team and posing with the most popular daily publication in the land is politically damaging? Stupid beyond belief? Do these people live in the same world that I do?

You see this goes back to the whole bubble issue. The political bubble is very much something that politicians are tainted with by members of the public but lets be honest – plenty of politicos are in the same boat. Liberals are probably the worst in our air of moral superiority. We pronounce this freedom for individuals to live their lives as they please but the moment someone decides to do so that is against one of our opinions we turn on them. This isn’t just about this issue but it is something I have noted for many years.

Personally I don’t buy The Sun. I don’t read it online. However I don’t care who does or doesn’t. I don’t judge people on their choice of newspaper. I used to buy the Daily Star for the train because it was cheap and easy to read. Do I think I should be judged because of that? People will say that I am but one man and no-one cares what newspaper I buy but Nick Clegg is the leader of a political party and should be more sensitive. Liberals don’t like The Sun and therefore he shouldn’t have anything to do with them. Yey 18% of people who identified as readers of The Sun in 2010 voted for the Liberal Democrats – doesn’t our leader represent those people as well as those of us who don’t buy The Sun?

In 2005 Labour were +10% compared to the Tories amongst readers of The Sun but in 2010 they were -15%. They is a 25% swing within five years amongst a readership of just over 3million at the time. This is why – rightly or wrongly – The Sun is important. Should Nick (or Ed) be lambasted for posing with a copy of The Sun? No way, no how. Yes they’ll piss off many people who don’t buy The Sun but many people do. On the doorsteps of everywhere except Liverpool will who posed for a picture with The Sun be an issue on the doorstep above the economy, immigration, the NHS, crime, green issues, housing, banking etc…? Of course it won’t.

So politicos it is time to get our heads out of our own arses and realise that a photograph of a political leader with the most popular newspaper in the country is not a big issue. We like to think it is but it really isn’t. The time when someone solely bases their vote or their opinion based on one photograph is a time that scares me. I like to think that humans have the capacity to use their brains and I give them the credit for doing so. If some believe that this photograph solely will crush either Ed or Nick in the polls or at the ballot box then I am disappointed that those people have such little faith in the people of this country.
